About Department

Established in 2009, the Department offers three courses : M.A in Mass Communication, Bachelor of journalism and mass communication (BJMC) and B.A mass communication. The major objective of the Department is to train students in the spheres of print media, journalism, television production, radio production, advertising, public relations, film studies, digital media and photography. Our aim is to nurture cutting edge media professionals with effective communication and critical thinking skills. We work towards preparing young minds with a strong foundation in values and principles, who proactively intervene in the development of a just and humane society.

 

Mission

The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication mission is to provide excellence in teaching, research, creative endeavor and service through the disciplines of communication and mass media. The department seeks to: maintain a supportive, concerned relationship with its students; provide outreach to the campus community, region and, when feasible, beyond; provide for the educational needs of department majors and minors and curricula on a regular basis in order to meet the changing needs of students; serve as a resource to professionals and organizations in the region; attract and retain quality students; establish and maintain a visible presence at professional meetings, conferences and competitions, and fill leadership roles in professional organizations; make the community and region aware of its programs, activities and curricula; and continually define what constitutes excellence for its individual faculty positions, striving to improve to that level.

 

Vision

The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication is devoted to excellence in teaching, student mentoring and creative endeavor. Through our commitment to student recruitment, student retention and student mentoring, the department recruits, educates and graduates students prepared to advance in professional careers or graduate education. In addition, our faculty provide quality scholarly/creative activity and a commitment to service to professional associations, the university and the community through activities which enhance the department’s contribution to human communication, mass media, the performing arts and culture.

HOD Message

Dr. Jasmer Hooda

Department of Journalism and Mass Communication is a dynamic department teamed up with young professionals having media industry exposure. The department has one primary objective as our students’ success. We are committed to providing a rich educational experience, a solid foundation in thought and knowledge, state-of- the-art training and extensive career support services. We offer Bachelor of Journalism and Mass Communication(BJMC) , M.A Journalism and Mass Communication, B.A mass Communication  with a wide-array of courses teach by qualified and dedicated full-time faculty members. Altogether, our department provides. Undergraduate degrees designed to prepare students to apply their knowledge and skills in productive careers and to understand the challenges of our changing world. Graduate degrees, master’s that will prepare students for outstanding professional careers in academic, government and the private sector. I look forward to welcome you with our group of faculties of Journalism and Mass Communication.
